WHAT SCHOOLS DO YOU WORK WITH? IS THERE A MINIMUM AGE?

We work with all schools and pupils aged 6+. We have worked with primary schools and secondary schools; Special Educational Needs Schools (and SEN Units within schools) and Pupil Referral Units (PRU)

WHAT AREAS OF WALES DO YOU COVER?

We have a lovely woodland site just outside of Bridgend, where you can come to us. If you are planning a school trip and would like help planning your trip, please drop us a line.

If you would like us to run sessions within your school grounds, we work across: Cardiff, Vale of Glamorgan, RCT and Bridgend. We have sometimes travelled further afield to Newport, Monmouth and Swansea areas. Please get in touch if you would like us to travel to you.

WHAT TIME OF YEAR DO YOU RUN SESSIONS FOR SCHOOLS?

All year round! We’ve had brilliant feedback following sessions held in the depths of winter and on scorching summer’s days – the most important thing is for all guests to wear the right gear to suit the weather conditions. Please see ‘what to wear’ on our kit list.

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT’S RAINING OR IN BAD WEATHER?

We carry on! Some activities can take place under our bushcraft shelter, whilst outdoor activities still prove enormous fun in the rain (and sometimes even more so!) as long as guests are appropriately dressed. Please see ‘what to wear’ on our kit list.

Sometimes, however, the great British weather can defeat even the hardiest bushcrafter! We will always carry on as long as it is safe to do so, but we risk-assess continually and will halt or postpone a session if we feel it is unsafe to continue. In the event of this happening, we will communicate with you at the earliest opportunity, arranging either to reschedule at your convenience or to issue a refund (please note that if your event is taking place on an external site, we may not be able to refund the small site fee).

If you decide to cancel the event in poor weather after we have risk-assessed it as safe to go ahead, this will be treated as a cancellation and we will not issue a refund. Please refer to our terms and conditions, and please get in touch if you have any questions about this.

ARE SESSIONS ACCESSIBLE?

We have wide-ranging experiences working with groups and individuals with specific needs. We are committed to making our sessions accessible and can tailor most activities.

We are happy to discuss your groups’ needs and how we can tailor our activities to meet them. We are also happy to speak or meet with parents before a session.

ARE SESSIONS RISK ASSESSED?

Yes. We carry out a risk assessment for the session activities and can provide you with a copy. You will need to have a risk assessment in place for taking pupils away from school grounds.

CAN YOU PROVIDE US WITH DOCUMENTATION E.G. DBS CHECKS, INSURANCE?

Yes. We can provide you with copies of our DBS certificates or give you access to check our profiles online. We can provide copies of our insurance certificate, risk assessment, first aid certificate etc. Once you have made a booking, we can also provide you with a copy of your session plan. If you require anything else, please let us know.

WHAT IS YOUR MAXIMUM GROUP SIZE? WHAT ARE YOUR SUPERVISION RATIOS?

Maximum group size is approx 30; if your class is slightly bigger than this, this is fine. You will have one instructor with a group of 30 (unless paying for two instructors) We advise to have at least five adult supervisors. The school can decide on who can be an adult supervisor (e.g. parents and other volunteers) but we need at least two teachers or teaching assistants in the group.

HOW CAN WE GET TO YOU? CAN YOU ADVISE ON TRANSPORT?

Our woodland site is located just outside of Bridgend. Access to the site is along a single lane farm road. We advise on using minibuses and small coaches up to 24 seaters. Two local companies offering reasonable prices are Peyton Travel and EasyWay.

If you need any help or advice to organise transport, please drop us a line.

WHAT SHOULD GUESTS WEAR?

Our events are held outdoors and therefore we can’t guarantee that guests will stay clean! We recommend wearing old or inexpensive clothes, wellies or old trainers and waterproofs. For further details, please see ‘what to wear’ on our kit list.

DO WE NEED PARENTAL CONSENT FORMS? WHAT INFO DO WE NEED TO PROVIDE IN ADVANCE?

The school needs to ensure that parental consent forms are completed for every child in order to take part. You should bring emergency contact details for pupils with you.

We need information about medical conditions in advance of the session. This is so that we can contact parents or make any adjustments if necessary.
