Family adventure

Looking for a fun, alternative family activity in South Wales? Book a Bushcraft Adventure for a family adventure to remember!

Two hour events, for kids aged 7+ & adults! Choose from bushcraft or archery. Works out at just £10 per person!

Bushcraft Basics

Learn the basic survival skill of lighting a fire, using different techniques used throughout the ages and see if you can pass our family fire lighting challenge to start a fire. Head in to the woods to make natural shelters and see if you can keep your family dry. We’ll finish with toasted marshmallows and tales of your adventure around the campfire.

Archery adventure

Come and have a go at archery. Get kitted up and warm up on our woodland archery range with an introduction to archery. Once warmed up, we’ll introduce a bit of friendly family competition with our archery challenges to see who’s on target. To finish, we’ll gather round the campfire for a cuppa and toasted marshmallows to celebrate our shooting success!

  • Fun for all the family – for kids aged 7+ and adults
  • Two hours, refreshments included
  • Held at our woodland site near Bridgend, which has undercover areas and toilets
  • Max of three children supervised by one adult
  • For up to 15 people – at least 7 should be children.

Join us for a Wild Wednesday in the school holidays at our Bushcraft Basecamp in Bridgend!

Two hour events during the school holidays, for kids aged 7+ & adults! Choose from bushcraft or archery. Book individually for just £10 per person.

Wild Wednesday – Bushcraft

Key info and terms and conditions

  • For kids aged 7+ and adults, £10 per person
  • Adults do not have to take part, but children must be supervised
  • One adult to supervise up to 3 children (including children who are not participating)
  • We have limited facilities on-site and politely request that only the required adult supervisors and immediate family members stay on-site.
    If you have others in your group who aren’t taking part, do drop us a line as we can recommend lots of things to do in the local area
  • Consent forms for all participants are required at least 3 days before the event

Shelter building and the waterproof test!

This is a basic survival skill. And one that you can easily do within your school grounds, even on the playground. You’ll learn about the things to include in your risk assessment, how to safely build shelters and more.

You’ll get hands on building your own shelter (and even test if it’s waterproof!), and learn how to introduce this activity to your pupils.

Key info

  • Group size: 1 to 12 teachers and/or teaching assistants
  • Length of session: 1.5 to 2 hours or longer if you have the time
  • Location details: at our Bridgend site or within your school grounds (Cardiff, Bridgend, RCT and Vale of Glamorgan areas)

Cost

From £95 for one instructor – cost depends on the length of your session.

Getting started with fire lighting

Learn the ancient skill of lighting a fire. This is the most popular activity with pupils! You’ll learn about the things to include in your risk assessment, how to safely manage a fire and the equipment you’ll need.

Better Out Than In

Come along to our one day workshop and learn about the science behind why outdoor learning works! And learn some great outdoor activities to use with your pupils and take learning outdoors every day.

What will I gain from this workshop?

  • An understanding of the effects the outdoors has on our physical and emotional health and
    wellbeing – for both children and adults
  • An understanding of how to use the outdoors to engage with children and young people to
    build resilience and enhance and reinforce learning
  • Practical tools and activities that you can utilise to provide outdoor learning opportunities for your pupils

Outdoor inspiration

In this session, we’ll explore a range of accessible activities to take learning outdoors. You’ll learn about the things to consider in your risk assessment and the equipment you’ll need, and you’ll get hands on with the activities.

From land art, to leaf rubbings, willow crafts, and tree towers,  to mini parks, nature bingo, scavenger hunts and nature ID trails. You’ll leave brimming with ideas and we’ll signpost you to online resources to research more activities.

Natural resources

Using natural resources, pupils will get creative making mud monsters, land art and explore nature with scavenger hunts. This workshop works well for children aged 5+.

These workshops are based on using natural resources and getting pupils to explore their surroundings. They’re ideal for creative minds and small hands. Choose from:

  • Land art – pupils will forage for natural materials in their school surroundings and get creative to make their masterpiece.
  • Mud monsters – we’ll get our hands dirty making mud monsters
  • Nature ID, scavenger hunts and woodland bingo are fun activities that get kids moving and learning about nature and exploring their surroundings
  • Tree towers is a fun game using sticks and working together as a team to see who can build the tallest tower

  • Group size and timings: we work with different group sizes. We can adapt to run shorter 45 minute sessions or longer sessions depending on the number of pupils.

Archery

Archery is a fun and accessible sport. Pupils aged 7+ will get to try something new, as well as practice mental arithmetic, work as a team and more.

Archery requires focus, concentration, dealing with pressure, learning how to fail and much more. It’s also great for practising mental arithmetic and encouraging team work. You can read more about the benefits of archery for kids in this blog post: 25 reasons archery is good for kids.

Our archery workshops provide a short taster to the sport. After receiving a short health and safety briefing and instruction, pupils will have a go at shooting arrows on our archery range.

  • Group size and timings: we work with different group sizes. We can adapt to run shorter 45 minute sessions or longer sessions depending on the number of pupils.

  • Teacher / adult supervision: 2 to 5 adults needed to supervise, depending on group size
  • Venue details: within your school grounds if suitable – we need a large playing field to set up our archery range.

Beach Schools

Take pupils aged 5+ to the beach to be inspired by the Great Outdoors! They’ll get creative with beach art, mini villages & more at Beach Schools.

Key info

  • Age: 5+
  • Group size: One class of up to 30 children
  • Teacher / adult supervision: minimum of 3 adults needed to supervise
  • Length of sessions: half day or full day
  • Location details:  a local beach in south east Wales (the school will require permission to use the beach, we can support you with this)

Cost

From £95 for short sessions, to £175 for a full day for one instructor

Nature-themed craft activities

Creative workshops for creative young minds. Pupils aged 5+ can make beautiful sun catchers, origami flowers, or felt soap socks to clean muddy hands.

These nature-themed craft workshops are perfect for creative minds and small hands.
Choose from:

  • Sun catchers – using card, tissue paper and PVA glue, pupils will create a beautiful sun catcher to put in their window at home.
  • Origami flowers – using card and other craft materials, pupils will make their very own flower. This activity requires patience and concentration, as well as a creative eye.
  • Felt making – using colourful felt and water, pupils will make a colourful felt soap sock. Soap socks are a clever way to clean muddy hands!
