This is a basic survival skill. And one that you can easily do within your school grounds, even on the playground. You’ll learn about the things to include in your risk assessment, how to safely build shelters and more.

You’ll get hands on building your own shelter (and even test if it’s waterproof!), and learn how to introduce this activity to your pupils.

  • Group size: 1 to 12 teachers and/or teaching assistants
  • Length of session: 1.5 to 2 hours or longer if you have the time
  • Location details: at our Bridgend site or within your school grounds (Cardiff, Bridgend, RCT and Vale of Glamorgan areas)

Getting started with fire lighting

Learn the ancient skill of lighting a fire. This is the most popular activity with pupils! You’ll learn about the things to include in your risk assessment, how to safely manage a fire and the equipment you’ll need.

You’ll get hands on learning different fire lighting techniques used throughout the ages, and how to introduce these to your pupils.

Better Out Than In

Come along to our one day workshop and learn about the science behind why outdoor learning works! And learn some great outdoor activities to use with your pupils and take learning outdoors every day.

What will I gain from this workshop?

  • An understanding of the effects the outdoors has on our physical and emotional health and
    wellbeing – for both children and adults
  • An understanding of how to use the outdoors to engage with children and young people to
    build resilience and enhance and reinforce learning
  • Practical tools and activities that you can utilise to provide outdoor learning opportunities for your pupils

Outdoor inspiration

In this session, we’ll explore a range of accessible activities to take learning outdoors. You’ll learn about the things to consider in your risk assessment and the equipment you’ll need, and you’ll get hands on with the activities.

From land art, to leaf rubbings, willow crafts, and tree towers,  to mini parks, nature bingo, scavenger hunts and nature ID trails. You’ll leave brimming with ideas and we’ll signpost you to online resources to research more activities.
